Congress
catches on to catch share agenda.
"We have supported legislative language that would prevent …
development and approval of new limited access privilege
programs"
"NOAA would be well-advised not to pursue such an imprudent
course."
"We intend to pursue inclusion of the prohibition on funding
new limited access privilege programs in ... 2012..."
"We would like to know if NOAA intends to ignore public
opposition to catch shares..."
Excerpts from Congressional
letter to Dr. Lubchenco.

Most
effective to take action on Monday or Tuesday (5/16 & 5/17)
Take a few
minutes and read through the letters below. The first letter
shows how National Marine Fisheries Service/NOAA lawyers
advise the #2 guy at NOAA (Eric Schwaab) on exactly how to
avoid following the letter of the law and the intent of
congress. This was essentially a ‘green light’ for NOAA
Director Jane Lubchenco to continue to develop catch share
programs in direct defiance a recent act of Congress (Jones
Act) which specifically discontinued all funding (and work)
on catch share plans.
Representatives Jones and Pallone were dismayed by this
contempt of Congress. The second letter is from Jones and
Pallone, in which they call on NOAA too justify and account
for their actions. One can only imagine the activity at
NOAA’s top levels.
The third
letter is for your reading pleasure. Thank both of the
Senators for their actions to allow anglers access to the
healthy Red Snapper.
FRA
members have made a HUGE difference in Washington. Keep
calling. It matters.

CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS ACTION
PLAN
To achieve our goal of sound
fisheries management, we must all take action. Follow
the plan below to focus our actions for maximum effect.
Call both of your Senators as well
as your congressional Representative. Also, there is a
list of House and Senate Committee members that need to
be made aware of National Marine Fisheries
Service/NOAA’s willful contempt of Congress. Your voice
will bring about action to hold accountable those who
willfully defy Congress and steal your rights.
The talking points-
The data is flawed. The science
is outdated and unreliable. Unnecessary regulations
kill jobs and fishing opportunity.
The National Marine Fisheries
Service /NOAA, in blatant defiance of Congress and
Magnuson, continues to develop catch share programs. We
support Congress in demanding accountability for the
illegal and wholly revolting actions of NMFS.
Sector separation attempts to
bring catch shares to recreational fisheries.
What part of NO CATCH SHARES was
not heard during public input?
AFRAID TO CALL? Please don't be intimidated. This
is as easy as ordering a pizza.
What should I say?
Call the office and ask to have a message delivered to
the legislator. Tell the person answering the phone
that you need their help. State your name, where you
live and how you are connected to fishing (recreational
angler, fishing business owner,etc.). Legislator phone
numbers are below.
To congress:
-
Thank you for NOT funding catch share programs for
2011. Please do not authorize future funding.
-
Please support Representatives’ Jones and Pallone’s
May 10th letter to Dr. Lubchenco
-
Please
hold oversight hearings on National Marine Fisheries
Service/NOAA’s contempt of Congress.
-
I oppose sector separation. It is a form of catch
shares for recreational anglers.
-
Please speak with the FRA representatives that are
visiting Washington, DC.
Thank Senators Rubio and Nelson for their actions on
Gulf Red Snapper
